Sometimes, Life Gives You Lemons.

I had this whole batch of posts to go up in April, and only three of them actually made it here.

By now, you think I'd learn to stop planning and just start doing.  But, I'm a planner.  I like to have goals and an idea of what I'm doing and when I'm doing it.  Even if I don't stick to the plan, it's always comforting to have one.  So, I printed out my "To Blog" sheet, organized everything, set the dates, and called myself awesome for being so good at planning things.

Well, so much for that idea!  The last 30 days had other plans.  Terrible wicked plans.  *Shiver*

I don't want to rehash it all here, but have you seen the movie The Money Pit starring Tom Hanks?

It went a little something like that.  The only thing missing was a flying turkey.  If you really want to know the depth of my woes, take a walk on the wild side and head over to Obey The Muse for my third installment of "Stories from the Straight Jacket".

Sometimes, life gives you lemons and you just have to pucker up and suck it up.

But enough about that.  I actually have some good news and something fun to share.

Last year, in a moment of sheer idiocy, I decided to put my writing area in the school room and make my office the playroom.  It was an idea so bad that I didn't even realize what a mistake it was until every last pencil had been moved.  Naturally, after helping me move all the books and desks and computers... the males revolted and refused to move it all back.

So, the corner of the noisy, chaotic, and terrifyingly distracting school room became my "Realm".  Getting my school work done was iffy.  Writing was impossible.

Clearly, a woman really does need a room of her own.  And if that woman happens to be a writer, that room needs a door.  That locks.

With my oldest son's recent departure from the nest, I found myself with an extra bedroom.  Happy happy joy joy!  I confess, I'm not one of those sentimental mothers that decided to keep his room a shrine.  He's a big boy now.  And I need a place to write!  So, his room became the playroom and I regained the area that I had once called my Realm.

I'm more in love with my writing room than ever, because this time I really made an effort to make it mine.  It reflects my hopes and dreams as a writer.  It is a dedicated space for a writer.  It's a place where I can read and write and dream to my heart's content.

Sometimes, life gives you lemons and you go hide in your special room.

I sit here now, in my new improved Realm, as the soothing sounds of a babbling brook drift through the opened windows.  The door is shut tight, relieving me of the distractions of Spongebob, dogs barking, and a hungry husband rifling through the kitchen pantry.  The "Do Not Disturb" sign is hung.. and they are actually heeding the warning.

And... I write.
