Winner, Winner, Italian Dinner, Oh and Movie Night!

D.M. Kilgore, The Realm, Funtastic Friday

Whoop! Whoop!

at The Realm!

Who's ready to Partaaaaay?

Throw your hands up in the air!
Now wave 'em like you just don't care!

Congratulations! You survived another work week!

And boy has it been one amazing week for yours truly!

So, tonight we celebrate at Casa de Kilgore. What are we celebrating? Well, for starters, In Creeps The Night had an amazing release. We even trumped the King (yes, as in Stephen King) on Amazon's Top 100 in Horror! Can you believe it? I was really happy about that. I can totally die happy now.

Also, this week marked the return of one of our favorite T.V. shows-- The Vampire Diaries, so our "date night" is back on like Donkey Kong. Whoo Hoo! *shakes her groove thing yeah yeah*

It's the little things in life.

FYI: We ditched our Direct TV because it was just crazy to pay almost $200 a month for 800+ channels we never watch. We watch four shows and they all come on the same channel. So, we opted for Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime (which I get a great deal on as a student). We cut our cost from $145-59 a month to under $20, and we still get to watch our favorite shows. Now, we just watch them the day after they air (on Hulu) or we indulge in watching an entire season in a massive marathon of guilty pleasure (on Netflix or Amazon).

Tonight, we'll fix an Italian meal
(in honor of our favorite Salvatore brothers)
and settle down to watch the season premiere of The Vampire Diaries.

I'm sorry... what were we talking about?

This is not much fun (or very appropriate) for Little Man and we don't dare leave him out, so before we indulge in our guilty pleasure we'll have some Funtastic Fun together as a family.

Here's what's on the agenda (and the menu) for tonight's

I'll be fixing my yummy "Pizagna Casserole" for dinner.

D.M. Kilgore, The Realm, Funtastic Friday, Pizanga

What the heck is Pizanga? Well, it's a creative combination somewhere between French-bread pizza and homemade lasagna. It's really easy to make, and soooo cheesy-gooey-delicious.

Here's what you'll need:

1 package of Cobblestone Italian Sub Rolls (they come in wheat or white- pick your favorite). Slice in half (like you would for a sub) and place in bottom of an ungreased 9 x 13 casserole dish, flat side up. (You can slice a thin bit off the top of the sub roll if you can't get it to sit flat in the pan.

1 jar (24 oz) of your favorite pasta sauce (my son only likes Prego Traditional,  but feel free to use your favorite).

1 pound of lean ground beef (or you can use turkey)
Brown until well done. Drain grease.

*Or you can make homemade meatballs if you prefer.

1 tsp. Mrs. Dash Tomato, Basil, and Garlic flavor seasoning.

1 eight oz. package of cream cheese (softened).

1/2 cup of your favorite mayonnaise.

2 cups of your favorite brand of shredded Mozzarella cheese.

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • In a bowl, mix the mayo, Mrs. Dash, and cream cheese.
  • Stir until well blended and creamy.
  • Now, spread this delish mixture on the slices of bread.
  • Sprinkle 1/2 of your Mozzarella cheese over the creamy spread.
  • Mix your drained/cooked ground beef (or meatballs) and your spaghetti sauce.
  • Carefully spoon the sauce and meat mixture over the cheese.
  • Top saucy meat mixture with the rest of the Mozzarella.
  • Bake uncovered for 30 minutes.

We like to serve this guilty pleasure with a nice green salad. It makes us feel better- don't judge -bwahaha! Anyhoo, I hope you'll love this easy and yummy casserole. When you go to lift out the bread slices, use a wide spatula. It's heavy with gooey-goodness. Feel free to add your own touches or ingredients and make this your own special Funtastic Friday meal.

Now, let's talk movie time.

In our house we let the little man pick something he'd like to watch, and then later when he's settled in bed, it's adult movie time. No, no not that kind of adult movie- gah! You know, the something-for-the-grownups kind. We alternate each weekend. One weekend I pick, the next hubby picks, so on so on so forth. We try to choose something that the other won't absolutely hate.

Tonight's line up looks like this...

The Lego Movie, The Realm, Funtastic Friday, D.M. Kilgore

Little Man's Choice: The Lego Movie (again). We have a rule about "favorites" around here. The same movie is allowed 3 back-to-back weekends. After that, it gets to take a break on the shelf. This is the only way for a mom to maintain her sanity when her child is an Aspie. Trust me on this. Tonight marks Lego Movie's third play. Over and out. Done. After that we will play a round of The Lego Creator Game (also Little Man's choice) and winner gets to pick next Funtastic Friday's meal.

By now, it's time for Little Man to hit the bath tub. This is when hubby and I will indulge in the new season of The Vampire Diaries. It works out just right for us. By the time it's over Little Man is ready to be tucked in for story time.

Now, it's grown-ups only! Bow-chica-wow-wow!

Carrie 2013, Stephen King, Movie, The Realm, Funtastic Friday, D.M. Kilgore, Horror
It's my turn to pick a movie. Netflix just added the 2013 remake of Carrie. Here's hoping the adaptation lives up to Mr. King's novel.

It's my pick tonight.

Hubby is not a super fan of horror and I'm sure I'll suffer through some crazy space-alien blow up the world movie next weekend, but it's called compromise, and... I'll just let you in on a tiny secret: I'm not really not a fan of sci-fi, I just let him think I am.

I'm so evil, right?

Wait! What about the "bow-chica-wow-wow"?

Well, a lady never kisses and tells my friends.

Truth is... It's grown-up time, but just between you, me, and the fencepost, we are so grown-up we're usually just ready to crawl into bed and fall into a slight carbohydrate-coma at this point. Whatever you do on your Funtastic Friday is your business. *wink wink*

And that's how the Kilgores throw some FUNTASTIC at a typical FRIDAY night.

What about you?

Do you have a fun night? a date night? a special tradition?

I'd love to hear about it (minus any bow-chica-wow-wow, of course).
Comment below and tell me more about how you spend
a wild weekend with the family. I like to see how the other half lives.

Here I am with my hottie, err I mean hubby.

He definitely puts the wow in bow-chica-wow-wow, right?

PS - Speaking of WINNERS, ahem, that was indeed a hint for all of you that played along in the Release Day game for In Creeps The Night.  It was a super close race but after tallying all the totals, triple checking my math, and hiring an accountant... (drum roll) ...

The WINNER is: Natalie Pierson!

Congratulations Natalie!
I'll be in touch to get your address so I can mail you a
signed paperback copy of In Creeps The Night.
Thanks to everyone who played!

We're watching Captain America Winter Soldier. Well, everyone but K. She's all about the Disney Channel. Dinner? Not sure yet.
For me and the hubby later? Probably the new show How to Get Away with Murder.

Loved your blog and congrats, Natalie for winning! The remake of Carrie was pretty good so we think you will love it. And we kicked the cable company to the road years ago. We only do Amazon Prime and Netflix. Much cheaper and has all of our shows—Joni Lynn

Oh my! That show sounds right up my twisted alley - the murder one- not the Cptn. America one. ;)

Best thing we've done in a long time was ditching the dish! I'm looking forward to Carrie and hoping it lives up to the book. ;)

Yay!! I'm so excited that I won the paperback copy!! Woohoo! Happy dance!!

And I think I'm going to have to try that recipe - looks yummy ;)

And our movie tonight was "Gone Girl." Loved it! I haven't read the book yet, but I have it and plan to read it soon.

Oh it is so yummy!!! Try it for sure! Congrats on winning! Happy you're excited to get your copy! =D

Oh! I haven't read that one yet, or seen that. I'll have to add it to my list!
